It may sound puerile, but we can’t emphasize just how strongly we recommend this: if you’re in debt and if you’re concerned/ worried / terrified out of your mind; then please, just talk to someone. It will help. Debt advice is free; it’s confidential and it might just give you the impetus you need to take a stand and tackle your debt, once and for all.
| Debt doesn’t just destroy our finances, it erodes confidence. Saddled with debts, it’s easy to feel powerless. It’s even easier to feel alone. That’s why it’s so important to share our problems – and this is one occasion where it’s actually easier done than said! All you have to do is pick up the phone… |
Telephone debt helplines and national debt helplines are easy
to use. You’ll
find numbers in the telephone directory, on the internet, in Doctor’s
surgeries; even on the side of busses. Just dial the number and within minutes
you’ll be talking to experts and taking steps to tackle your debt. For
some of us, making the call is, in itself, a big step. It means that we’re ‘owning
up’ to our debt; and we’re dealing with it responsibly. Rest
assured, the National debt helpline operatives will make it easy; they’ll
put you at ease within seconds; they’ll talk with you, not at you;
and they’ll put things in perspective.
It is, after all, a professional service. Accordingly, you will be treated
with the utmost courtesy and respect. Remember, debt isn’t a dirty word. Debt
isn’t something that we need to feel ashamed about. In many ways, it’s
a symptom of our times. That’s why calls to national debt help lines and
advice lines are skyrocketing. Not just because UK debt is increasing, but because
public awareness is increasing too. We’re more inclined than ever to refer
to experts to help us in our times of need. After all, when we get an ache, pain
or bout of sniffles, we go to the Doctor. When something is wrong, we turn to
experts to help us put it right.
Speaking to a debt counsellor will help you get everything off your chest. It will help you to externalise all the pent up feelings of frustration and powerlessness - the inevitable consequences of financial instability. For many callers, it’s all they’ve been waiting for. They find that simply talking about their debt: about what precipitated it; what sustained it; and crucially, what can be dome about it, can help ease their burden and give them renewed confidence. It empowers them. |
Another one of the many good things about debt helplines is that, like this site, they don’t have a hidden agenda. They won’t try to sell you a debt solution package and they won’t try and fob you off. Instead they’ll listen; they’ll advise and they’ll treat you like an individual. Debt may be a great leveller, but everybody’s experience of debt is different; and they’ll respect that.
In addition to listening and advising where appropriate, debt helpline counsellors will work with you to find the most appropriate solutions for your situation. In some cases they’ll simply act as a sounding board for your own ideas; in others they’ll help you to clarify your strategy. Above all, they’ll give sound advice and common sense solutions, borne from pragmatic experience.
Many debt helpline services also have a website, where you
can interact with others in an online forum. You might pick up some good
advice; you might even end up helping out somebody else. The important thing
is; you’ll be talking to people who understand. So, whatever else you
do, don’t stop talking.
