Welcome To UK Debt

Back in the eighteenth century there were only two certainties in life: death and taxes. But those of us living through the twenty first century know that there are actually three certainties: debt, death and taxes!

Debt: the scourge of the modern world. Easy to get into; not so easy to get out of. It’s a constant factor in our everyday lives; as unavoidable as the taxman, and about as unpleasant as eighteenth century dentistry. It’s fair to say that most of us will have experienced debt at some stage, whether personally or vicariously. Indeed, many of us might feel that we’ll never know a life untouched by debt. Many more of us will even get used to debt; inured to it by years of selfless devotion to interest repayments and the inevitable hardships that follow.

Saddled with lifelong mortgage repayments, spiralling student loans and ‘buy now – pay later’ schemes, it’s hardly surprising that we’re a nation of debtors. In debt to the tune of one trillion pounds, according to some sources!

Never forget: debt is reversible. No matter how bad your debt may appear to be, it’s treatable; it’s beatable!

First things first; the size of your debt will obviously determine your rate of repayment, and determine the speed with which you get out of debt. If you’ve got a very large debt, then you’ll know full well its going to take time to get to the stage where your debt is a hindrance, not a curse. It will take a little longer still to get to the stage where it’s just a memory. What’s important is that you believe you can do it. When you start to manage your debt, you start setting achievable landmarks; you begin to talk in terms of months or years, instead of decades, ‘whenever’ or ‘never!’ Managed debt means that every re-payment is significant; every penny counts; every day brings you closer to a debt free lifestyle.

So even if the solution isn’t instantaneous, the relief is. There’s nothing quite so satisfying as managing your debt; taking control of it for the first time. Take control of your finances and you can re-take control of your whole life. You can think about the future with confidence, not with dread. You can even start to plan ahead for debt free days and a debt free lifestyle.
